Bringing Your Databases Onto iPhones

Your database saves you daily, but now you need it handy all the time
-- on an iPhone. Bento, FileMaker, FMTouch are there where you need
them. Find out what you can do.

Three different levels of integration will be discussed. The new
Bento app integrates simple single user databases seamlessly with your
iPhone or iPod touch. FileMaker Server PHP Site Assistant helps you
quickly create iPhone-friendly websites. FMTouch brings multiple
related databases to these handheld devices. Differences will be
explained, demonstrated, and discussed.

In addition to the New York FileMaker Pro Developers' Group, we've
invited the Motion Pictures Collective and the iPhone Developers
MeetUp to join this presentation by Agnes Riley, Mehboob Alam, and
Chuck Edwards. Other interested attendees are welcome.

Tektalk - A Live Q&A

Two of Tekserve's technicians and seminar veterans will spend this seminar fielding your computer-related questions. To be fair, we have devised a system so everyone can have a turn. We're going to have to be sticklers for the rules, so be sure you are prepared. You may ask one question and you'll be given a number when you arrive for the seminar. Numbers will be called at random. The maximum amount of time we can spend answering each question will be 5 minutes. We invite you to submit your question when you register, but we understand if you want to surprise us with a real stumper.

Don't forget to check out our Tektips and Tekserve's FAQ for examples.

Here are some sample questions:

- How can I set up my Mail Program?
- Why do I have two Libraries?
- Can I make my own Widget?
- How can I turn my computer into an alarm clock?
- Why does Safari keep asking me for my Keychain Password?
- What is Internet Sharing and how can I set that up?

Please also register at Tekserve's site so they know how many of us to expect and also submit your questions at the link right below.

We will be raffleing off some prizes - a Tekserve Tee Shirt, Tekserve Canvas Bag (great for groceries or dry cleaning) and a $25 TekBucks Card (gift certificate).

Hope to see you on the 25th!

Do you want to know more about creating great presentations? Join myself and local Macintosh fanatics as we examine some of OS X's best applications. This month's feature presentation will demonstrate the benefits of delivering presentations effectively using Apple's Keynote application. The focus of our event will be on Keynote, however I will also be discussing PowerPoint as well. You will learn why each has certain advantages in different situations. Come prepared with any questions you may have. Looking forward to seeing you on the 16th!

Tekserve Presents: No Strings Attached - AirPort and Bluetooth Demystified, hosted by Lars Hoel and the New York Mac Meetup Group

When it comes to computers, wires are a necessary evil. Each day we deal with tangled masses of them, usually too long or too short. In this seminar, Tekserve's Lars Hoel will teach you how to cut the cord on many of the devices you work with - wireless keyboards, mice, and printers are just the beginning. You can also connect to the Internet, network with other computers, and even sync your Palm or other handheld device wirelessly. Get rid of your cable collection and go wireless!

Tekserve is pleased to host the New York Mac Meetup Group for this seminar and a conversation following the presentation. Meet other local Macintosh fanatics to talk about the lastest buzz in the OS X universe. Share tips, tricks and all things Mac. Anyone from beginners to Gurus welcome.

What You Will Learn

How to set up a simple wireless network. How to share an Internet connection wirelessly. How to share a printer and stream music wirelessly throughout the house. How to use a wireless mouse, keyboard, and other Bluetooth devices

Please also register for the event with Tekserve

The November New York Mac Meetup will be taking place at Ripley-Grier Studios on 131 West 72nd Street, between Amsterdam & Columbus. Subways B or C to 72nd Street, 1,2, or 3 line to 72nd Street.

Our featured presenter will be Jonathan Zacks, the owner of Mac Help NYC. His website is: http://www.machelpnyc.com Jonathan will be doing a presentation about backing up your data and he will cover what to do if your hard disk fails.

We will be opening things up for discussion this time. Please feel free to take the floor and
share with us the Mac programs that you find most reliable and fun.

My new goal for this Meetup is to have get togethers on a more regular basis - possibly twice a month with an emphasis on teaching folks about specific programs that they would like to learn, such as learning how to use Keynote, as well as other programs. I want this group to be about how we all use Macs day to day. I want it to be a real forum for learning. I will be posting a poll to see what programs people are interested in learning about so that we can tailor the Meetups to meeting as many peoples' needs as possible.

Cost: $5.00

Tekserve is pleased to host the Mac Meet Up group featuring Lars Hoel who will give a brief presentation covering the past present and potential of Mac technology. Lars will show some vintage Mac commercials, talk about some of the favorite Mac models (and a few of the fiascos), and review some of the new product announcements. Come and camp out with the Mac Meetup group and reminisce on some of the classic, infamous, and notorious Macintosh models including the Lisa, the 16" portable Mac, the clones and the candy Macs. Find out about the new and exciting offerings from Apple including the new colored iPod Nanos with more storage space, what's on the horizon for 'iTV', the improvements made to the latest release of iTunes (version 7 is now available for free download) and get a glimpse of Leopard. The Mac Meetup group will be on hand to keep the conversation going and talk about what all these new developments mean for Mac aficionados.

We will be raffling off a brand new iPod shuffle. This is the one that was announced on September 12th. Come to the Meetup and you have a chance to win it!

Welcome all Mac Members!
September is here and it is time to kick-off the season with the best Mac Meetup venue yet... The Apple Store in SoHo. We've reserved their state-of-the-art theater on the second floor where I will be doing a Keynote presentation about Apple Remote Desktop. This powerful program is a must for anyone who wants to administer multiple Macs on a network. Please let me know if you would like to present anything Mac related as well and get ready to take the stage at the Apple store and make yourself heard. I know you are also just as excited to get your hands on all the new iPods and iPod nanos that Apple announced this past Tuesday. So be the first kid on the block to know it all!

This event fee is to cover the costs associated with using the event space for this Meetup. Any left over funds will be used to purchase items to raffle off at a future Mac Meetup. Please be aware that your PayPal account will show a charge from Starlight Media, Inc. the name of my Mac consulting company. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing you on the 19th!
